Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing stated that Myanmar wishes to continue cooperating with the developing nation of India.

He made this remark during a private meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 1, 2026.

"Just as you, Your Excellency, mentioned that India will become a driving force for global development, we likewise wish to continue cooperating with the advancing nation of India," the Myanmar President said.

Following that introduction, the two leaders discussed maintaining relations as good neighbors and good friends in accordance with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. Their discussions covered various sectors for bilateral cooperation, including education, healthcare,defense, trade, economy, tourism, and cultural preservation.

Moreover, importing construction materials, agricultural fertilizers, medicines, petroleum and petroleum products, textiles, and information technology needed by Myanmar from India was also discussed.

They also agreed to cooperate in border area stability, drug enforcement, and combating online scams and online gambling.

Ongoing implementation of matters that will yield mutual benefits for the people of both nations in the future.

Political analyst Dr. Myo Set Thway told CNI News that Myanmar is important to India, just as India is important to Myanmar.

"India is currently a country with strong growth and development in the world, particularly in technology. It has become a global power. U Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar can benefit from cooperating with such a country, and that is correct. Furthermore, bilateral trade is mutually beneficial. If India wants to manage and control those specific states and the armed groups [operating there], it inevitably needs to engage with Myanmar. That is why Myanmar is important to India. Similarly, India is also important to Myanmar," said Dr Myo Set Thway

The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence between the two nations include:

1. Mutual respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
2. Mutual non-aggression.
3. Mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
4. Equality and mutual benefit.
5. Peaceful coexistence.

President U Min Aung Hlaing noted that India currently ranks as the 11th largest investor in Myanmar, with 39 investment projects totaling USD 782.385 million. Indian investors are active in Myanmar's industrial, oil and gas, transport, communications, services, agriculture, and livestock and fisheries sectors.

Additionally, India is currently implementing major infrastructure initiatives, including the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway project.
