The Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) reportedly attacked and captured five joint camps of the KIA-PDF near Shwe Pyi Aye Town in the upper Sagaing Region on July 4, 2026.
The SNA captured the five camp locations of the joint KIA-HPDF 124 force, which had entered and positioned themselves within the territory controlled by the SNA’s Brigade (891), Battalion (2), on July 4, 2026.
An official from the SNA stated that on July 4, they successfully attacked and captured five camps belonging to the joint KIA-HPDF 124 force. These forces had expanded their territory southward toward the Tee Laung camp, where SNA troops are based in the Gway Tauk Kone village tract of Homalin Township. Some ammunition and enemy bodies were also recovered.
The official said, "They had been entering and occupying positions in our Brigade (891), Battalion (2) area for years. Initially, they stayed near the banks of the Chindwin River, but gradually they advanced closer to our camp. Therefore, we launched a counter-offensive. We managed to capture five of their camps in a single day. We recovered two bodies, three weapons, and some ammunition."

The five KIA-PDF camps captured by the SNA are located opposite the new town of Shwe Pyi Aye on the western bank of the Chindwin River. This area is close to where the joint KIA-PDF forces had blocked cargo boats sailing up from Monywa, thereby cutting off the local flow of goods.
Homalin, Khamti, and the Naga region in the upper Sagaing Region engage in trade by connecting with central Myanmar (Mandalay–Monywa).
According to local residents, this trade relies on both water and land routes. In maritime trade along the Chindwin River, the KIA-PDF controlled Shwe Pyi Aye, blocking cargo ships and cutting off the flow of goods. Furthermore, because the KIA-PDF dominates the Mandalay–Monywa–Homalin Yar Gyi Road and the Maha Myaing Road, the flow of goods to Homalin, Khamti, and the Naga region in upper Sagaing has been completely severed.

As a result, the Homalin, Khamti, and Naga regions in upper Sagaing are facing high commodity prices and goods shortages. Additionally, healthcare, education, and socio-economic conditions have deteriorated, and transportation has become extremely difficult.
The Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA) is an ethnic armed organization formed to protect and safeguard the territory, race, and religion of the Shanni people, as well as to reclaim their lost rights. The group operates in Kachin State and the upper Sagaing Region.
