Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing stated that Myanmar and India must establish a "Win-Win" situation where both sides can enjoy long-term mutual benefits through bilateral cooperation.
President U Min Aung Hlaing made these remarks during the Myanmar-India Trade and Investment Dialogue ceremony held in New Delhi, India, on May 31, 2026.
President U Min Aung Hlaing Said"Myanmar serves as a bridge connecting India to ASEAN and China, unlocking potential for India's economic growth," the President said. "Through bilateral cooperation, we must forge a 'Win-Win' situation that allows both sides to enjoy long-term shared benefits. The Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway are key to opening up not only bilateral trade but also the ASEAN-India Economic Corridor. I would like to invite Indian investors to invest in value-added manufacturing and services in Myanmar by effectively combining India’s advanced technology and capital with Myanmar’s rich natural resources, strategic location, and youthful workforce."

President U Min Aung Hlaing further noted that India currently ranks as the 11th largest investor in Myanmar, with 39 investment projects totaling 782.385 million USD. Indian investors are actively engaged in Myanmar's industrial, oil and gas, transport, communications, services, agriculture, and livestock and fisheries sectors.
U Htay Aung Kyi, an economic and banking analyst, told CNI News Agency that international relations are critical in today's political arena, adding that Myanmar's democratic mechanism needs to mature significantly more than it has.
"Relations with other countries are vital. One thing is clear—we cannot remain isolated forever; we have suffered the consequences of isolation for many years," U Htay Aung Kyi said. "Furthermore, even though we are neighbors, we need foresight when dealing with neighboring countries. There must be many things about this trip (President U Min Aung Hlaing's visit to India) that we cannot see. India is a democratic country; they already know what a 'Win-Win' situation means. In my view, our democratic mechanism needs to mature a lot more than this—ranging from foreign investment to economic and political relations. We have to properly implement a democratic mechanism. Our problem is that I frequently hear statements like 'we will only work with our friendly nations.' From an expert's perspective, that approach is not practical." He Said.

Political and economic analysts point out that a democratic mechanism in economics is a system that allows the majority of people (workers, consumers, and ordinary citizens) to participate in decision-making processes regarding national economic initiatives, ensuring that economic benefits are distributed fairly. It acts to curb the flaws of capitalism while focusing primarily on labor and collective ownership.
President U Min Aung Hlaing also mentioned that as relations between the government departments, business entrepreneurs, and peoples of both Myanmar and India improve, mutual understanding and trust are visibly strengthening.
He added that India is one of Myanmar's major trading partners, standing as Myanmar's fourth-largest export destination and sixth-largest source of imports. Annual bilateral trade averages around 1.5 billion USD, with Myanmar maintaining a trade surplus.
