U Aung Naing Thu, who previously served as the Deputy Chief of the Myanmar Police Force, has been proposed as the Chief Minister of the Yangon Region Government by President-elect U Min Aung Hlaing.
The proposal was submitted to and subsequently approved by the Yangon Region Hluttaw (Parliament) during its session held on April 6, 2026.
U Aung Naing Thu contested and won his seat as a Yangon Region Hluttaw representative for the Cocokyun (Coco Islands) constituency during the 2025 General Election.
Notably, he was the official tasked with personally handling the high-profile "Victoria" child rape case, which gained significant public attention in 2019.
