The Asian Highway, a vital Thai-Myanmar trade route that had been closed due to armed conflicts, is set to reopen on April 2, 2026.
A ceremony to mark the reopening of the Hpa-An–Kawkareik–Myawaddy (Asian Highway) will be held near Tadar-Oo Village (close to the Lun Nya Blue Lagoon).

Merchants noted that the reopening of the highway will improve the flow of goods and is expected to lead to a decrease in commodity prices.
The Asian Highway had been closed for a significant period as the area was under the control of the Karen National Union (KNU) and People’s Defense Forces (PDF). However, the government will officially reopen the route on April 2, 2026.
