Those helping workers are urging Myanmar nationals in Thailand to be cautious about their travel and safety due to the ongoing war between Thailand and Cambodia over the border conflict.

The Myanmar Embassy in Bangkok has issued a statement urging Myanmar citizens in Thailand to avoid traveling to the border area and to be vigilant about security, as there is ongoing exchange of gunfire along the Thai-Cambodian border.

Myanmar nationals in Thailand needed to avoid Thai extremist groups and Thai nationalist extremist groups, as they may be targeted. They also needed to express that they are Myanmar citizens, not Cambodians. U Min Oo, a labor affairs officer at the Foundation for Education and Development in Thailand, told CNI News.

Prime Ministers of Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia met and discussed ceasefire on July 28, 2025

"Myanmar citizens must be careful when they live, work, and travel. They need to avoid Thai extremists. They should ask their employers about it (Thai-Cambodian conflict). And Myanmar workers ask their employers to give their phone numbers. If Thai citizens come and ask Myanmar workers which citizens they are, Myanmar workers must explain that they are Myanmar, not Cambodian." he said.

A border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia erupted on July 24, 2025, resulting in gunfire between the two sides. Then, some Thais attacked and beat Cambodian citizens in Thailand. Then, the Thai Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that they would take action against those who bully and harass, said U Min Oo.

“The Thai Ministry of Interior and the Thai Ministry of Labor have issued statements stating that bullying or beating Cambodians or Burmese by Thai citizens, is a violation of the law and culprits will be taken action against. Cambodians are the ones who are beaten the most. Myanmar citizens have also been beaten up two or three times with Cambodians”he said.

Currently, the ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia was discussed at a meeting between the two prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia on July 28, sponsored by the rotating ASEAN chair, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar. The two countries then agreed to a ceasefire.
