The government was continuing to provide 2 trillion kyats for the rehabilitation of those affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar, said the SAC Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the opening of the Post Earthquake Technical Forum on July 28, 2025.
“The state has provided an initial capital of 500 billion kyats to help people whose homes were destroyed and rebuild their homes, and is continuing to provide another 2 trillion kyats for rehabilitation and reconstruction,” he said.
On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered Sagaing near Mandalay rocked, killing 3,739 people. The earthquake damaged more than 50,000 homes, as well as roads, bridges, towers, schools, hospitals, religious buildings, and factories/workshops.
It is reported that Myanmar has experienced about 20 major earthquakes measuring 6 and above on the Richter scale since 1839.
