Those who register political parties are being accused of treachery, Chairman U Ko Ko Gyi of the People's Party said.
He made the comments at the central committee of the PP held today.
U Ko Ko Gyi said, "We are accused of being traitors for just registering political parties at present. Other politicians are also registering their parties or struggling to survive. Ethnic political parties also do not deny that political parties that represent them should survive. To simply put it, their ethnic armed organizations are trying to register as political parties despite casualties and arson attacks in their areas but there are no threats against them. However, our Bamar political parties are being accused of treachery. I don't know their way of thinking. I can't accept it. The military staged a coup in 1962 and established a political party and it again staged a coup in 1988 and established a political party. I will have to ask them a question whether we should allow this to continue."

The SAC has enacted the political parties registration law and rules and some political parties are registering their parties.
On the other hand, the National Unity Government announced that it would not recognize the elections held by the SAC and would disrupt them.
U Ko Ko Gyi said that political issues must be resolved through political means and urged the public not to cave in to their emotions.

He added, "They said those who register political parties are power thirsty. It is very difficult to establish a political party, to organize people and there are shortcuts. However, you can see that it is not necessary to run for election to get appointed at the national level position without taking part in elections. However, we believe in the people and recognize public support. So, we urge the public to support us not through emotion but through political means."
The SAC chairman promised to hold elections in 2023 and hand over power to the winning party.
