At the request of the Peace Process Steering Team, Chairman of Karen National Union Gen. Mutu Say Poe has agreed to take the post of the leading paton of the PPST, according to the letter sent by the former to the latter.
The PPST had sent a request to Gen. Mutu Say Poe, calling on him to serve as the leading patron at the team to give his leadership and guidance.
Gen. Mutu Say Poe acknowledged the receipt of the request and responded that he would serve as the leading patron of the team on 4th August.
As the request to appoint him as the leading patron in order to give leadership and guidance to the PPST in accordance with the TOR approved by the fourth NCA-EAO Summit is the wish of ethnic peoples, he, as a member of a ethnic group, appreciate the request with full respect, Gen Mutu Say Poe wrote in his letter to the PPST.

Moreover, Gen. Mutu Saw Po wrote, “As the leading patron can make decisions privately on his own without influence from his organization according to the TOR, I believe that I will be able to shed light on the path based on my own belief that peacen can be restored through dialogue and lead the team independently.”
He also added, “ Therefore, the request to give leadership and guidance to the PPST has been accepted and I will take the post of the leading patron by not representing my organization but privately.”
As a result, Gen Mutu Say Poe will take the helm of the PPST by not representing the KNU but privately.
As Gen Mutu Say Poe has a friendly terms with Snr Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, the peace process will be stronger again and will contribute to resolving the political issues, according to some analysts who are involved in the process.

Currently, Gen. Mutu Say Po is acting as the chair of the KNU who signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement by leading seven other ethnic armed organizations.
General Mutu Say Poe resigned as the chairman of the PPST, which was formed with the seven signatories to the NCA, after serving the post from 2017 to 2019.
Currently, the PPST is formed with the PNLO, the ALP, the LDU, the ABSDF, the DKBA, the KNU/KNLA/PC and the NMSP.
Other EAOS including the RCSS/SSA, the KNU and the CNF were suspended from membership in the PPST.
