As the Coastal Guard is a civilian-oriented troop, it must carry out the public security and rule of law, said Sr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing, chairman of the State Administration Council.

He said the above at the third anniversary celebration to mark the establishment of Coastal Guard Command on 6th October 2024.

" As the coastal guard is a civilian-oriented troop that is to help the public, it needs to help or rescue mariners, civilian waterways authorities and agencies, especially, it must solve natural disaster or emergency situations or issues and disputes regarding waterways." he said.

In doing so, because the guard must get in touch with the public closely and enforce the rule of law, it needs to be skillful in public relations, he said.

As Myanmar has a coast whose length is about 1,300 water miles and about 1,400 islands, as well as a waters territory of 143, 110.72 square water miles, it would be necessary to expand the military strength of the coastal guard, he added.
